Masks in a Republic

"Masks must be worn to protect each other from sickness and death

This disease transmits through physical touch and our breath!"

We're hammered by this statement through public voices

And the "concern" of nosey's about our choices.

This is no longer a simple statement of fashion, but a way to live.

Fines are imposed on "lawbreakers" when it's not a law, to begin with

And now the general opinion is that compliance is best given!

This was mandatory and now we're deprived of an option! 

We've become a republic of fear and angst

That hides behind masks to preserve the weakest in our race. 

" We shouldn't risk killing the elderly and immunocompromised!

 We need to save them so put this on and comply!"

I swear, we've forgotten masks don't work for all people!

Yes, friend, I've seen the stats and death toll, 

But we need to remember that everything is born and dies.

It's just how it goes and you can't fight the cycle of life. 

Cloth over our mouths restricts communicating

It stops us from enjoying life when people are smiling. 

Being positive is useless whenever we wear masks  

And now we're too depressed to complete self-care or simple tasks! 

Mr.WHO came out and said to the public: "The virus has aerial maneuvers."

So now we have proof that masks will do nothing to protect each other! 

Our cure for this virus isn't a vaccine, but in our own bodies:

We need to strengthen our natural immunities. 

History is our guide: the past pandemic was the Spanish Flu of 1918

And over 50 million souls were sent to the gates of heaven. 

Despite the suffering felt across the world, however,

We learned more and recovered. 

But, I digress that's not the point you need to hear.

Masks are good when given a chance to decide, not forced by fear

And dictated by laws that hunger for total control. 

I know it's not an opinion that many agree with and will argue so,

But, the truth needs to be spoken, and now you know.
